Biography

NEWS: Brand New Single 'All Things Considered' is being released on 16th August 2021! Richard Anderson was born and raised in Annan, Dumfries & Galloway. He began playing guitar in his final year at school and then moved to Glasgow, performing with The Salad Days. His first experience of singing live came when fronting his own band band, Red Shelley, in the late 1990’s and in 2001 he released a solo EP, ‘I’m Not Getting Into Conversation’, which came to the attention of producers at BBC Radio Scotland. This led to a live session on the station's 'Celtic Connections' programme in addition to a number of performances and interviews on LTV’s ‘Live At Six’ Show. The early 2000's saw touring as a solo/acoustic performer: playing the Edinburgh Fringe, King Tut's Wah Wah Hut, Celtic Connections Festival and appearing regularly at the Glasgow Songwriter's Club. A second EP ‘Just As I Am’ was released in 2003 which again resulted in considerable airplay as did the debut album of 2007, Songs That Chose Me. While living in Cumbria Richard drove to all parts of the country, opening for Boo Hewerdine, Kieran Halpin, Michael Chapman, Kirsty McGhee to name before moving to London In 2009 where he involved himself in anti-austerity politics and recording the follow-up album Up Before Dark. 'Full of easy-going charm, plenty of great tunes' The Crack * * * * 'Songs are heartfelt with some deft and atmospheric accompaniment' R2Magazine.
