Biography

On April 2, 1980, Vasilis Lekkas performs under the direction of Manos Hadjidakis, at the Municipal Theater of Piraeus, on live broadcast by the Third Program of the Hellenic Radio, and the journey begins... Through this journey into music he came together with and met the whole world and cooperated with the greatest Greek composers, such as Manos Hadjidakis, Mikis Theodorakis, Yannis Markopoulos, Giannis Spathas, Giorgos Trandalidis, Yorgos Kazantzis and others. Vasilis Lekkas is known for his theatrical presence, always performing in a lyrical yet explosive and revolutionary way (once called by Mikis Theodorakis "The Newest Zorba"). For 40 years he travels the world with a repertoire that was inextricably linked to him and highlights his relationship with the audience which he feeds with stirring interpretations, with the goal to pass it on to future generations. His amazing vocal abilities, his knowledge and technical training, allowed him to expand his interpretive boundaries, by singing charismatically in a varied musical landscape that includes: Hellenic contemporary, folk, country, as well as, the so called rebetiko song. His discography was generated under the exploring prism of various sounds, rhythms and musical idioms, with the aim of highlighting a deeply social singing, consciously charged, uniting generations through its delivery. All these determine his choices and Vasilis Lekkas marks with his presence an artistic framework of a special ethos and style.
