Biography
Petros Gaitanos was born & lives in Greece. He studied European & Byzantine music at the Athens Hellenic Conservatory & received his degree with honors. Beloved in Greece & known throughout the world, he records & performs the 3 fundamental repertoires of his country: the Greek composers, traditional Hellenic music, and, the focus of his career, ecclesiastical Byzantine music. Having released 56 CDs of music, most of which have been certified gold, platinum, and multiplatinum, Gaitanos is a preserver, interpreter, and ambassador of Greek culture. He has performed live to countless joyous audiences throughout Greece & abroad, sharing Greek musical forms with the world, and bringing the spiritual richness of his homeland’s ancient traditions to the people of today. For Gaitanos, the art of music has as its center communication with God & with the people. It's a spiritual conduit, and its greatest aim is spiritual gain. This is true-or at least possible-for many kinds of music. He is the only Greek artist who is not limited to the explicit aims of some of the material he interprets. Instead, through his interpretations, he reaches for his ultimate target, becoming the bridge for people to connect with the Creator and higher, eternal values. During the next few years, he will be working with artists & choirs in various parts of the globe to create a new way of expression, a global form of expression based on respect for the eternal tradition. And so the journey continues.
