Biography

Back in the early 70s, when David Garfield was a rising teen musician playing in traditional jazz and R&B bands in his hometown of St. Louis, the multi-talented keyboardist/composer dreamed of moving to Los Angeles someday and forming an instrumental band that would incorporate all of his diverse influences—from jazz, funk and Latin to rock, world, African and Brazilian music. He realized his vision much more quickly than expected, forming within a year after arriving in L.A. Named for the charismatic performance qualities of the crop of musicians Garfield gathered, the band played their first gig at the "Comeback Inn" in Venice, CA in 1975. Over the past 45 years each member has gained notoriety and exciting opportunities arose for them touring & recording with major artists. With Garfield at the helm & their roots firmly planted in the L.A. scene, the band ruled a"Dynasty at "The Baked Potato from 1978 through the 1995. Most of the musicians who have played with Karizma over the years have become studio or touring legends in their own right such as Michael Landau, Steve Lukather, Tim Pierce, Dean Parks (Guitars) Lenny Castro(Percussion), (Jimmy Johnson (Bass) & Vinnie Colaiuta & Carlos Vega (Drums) Their 2000 & 2005 Japanese & European tours were wildly successful. With the expert engineering of Steve Sykes and multiple Grammy Award winner Al Schmitt, their extraordinarily & ambitious seventh recording "Perfect Harmony" (3 disc set), is considered the best yet!
