Michiko is a Sydney-born, New Zealand-based singer, songwriter and producer whose style is described as a fusion of electronica, dance and downtempo with smooth and soulful vocals. Influenced by artists such as Sade, Miguel Migs and often compared to Samantha James and Blue Six. Michiko’s debut album Daydreamer was recorded in a humble basement bedroom in West London and released independently in 2006. Not expecting much of a reaction to the release, Michiko’s single “Stuck On You” gained the attention of many listeners, as well as that of Lemongrassmusic, under whose label Michiko’s follow up album “No Place Like Home” was released in 2010. Her third album “New Beginning” was released independently in 2013. Simplicity has become the trademark of Michiko’s recordings. Still created entirely at home, whereever that happens to be at the time, her albums evoke authenticity over sophistication. For this reason Michiko continues to publish her own albums. Her latest album “Awakening” is a celebration of electronic dance & 80s pop with soulful lyrics that touch the listener. In Michiko’s own words: “Awakening is, as an entire album, a love song to you – the listener. Because there has never been anyone else a love song should been about.
