Biography
Daúde is a Brazilian singer who has had an international career blending Brazilian roots music with an electronica approach. She has performed at the Summer Stage Festival (New York), Roskilde Festival (Copenhagen), Montreux Festival (Switzerland), and the Palais de Beaux-Arts (Brussels). She has presented herself in up to 13 countries: United States, Norway, Denmark, Holland, France, Belgium, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Italy, Turkey, Spain, and Portugal. In Europe, she was featured in about 50 radio and TV shows. Daughter of an army officer, she moved with her family to Rio at 11. When her father moved back with his family to Salvador, Daúde remained in Rio. She took voice lessons with the baritone Paulo Fortes and also studied scenic arts. She has a major in Literature. She sang in every little opportunity until recording her first album, Daúde (1995), which received the Sharp prize and the APCA (São Paulo's Association of Art Critics) re-reading folkloric sounds and themes with contemporary pop music. In 1997, Daúde #2 had success abroad with the tracks "Pata Pata" (version for Myriam Makeba's hit), "Vamos Fugir" (Gilberto Gil/Liminha, sung in a duet with Djavan), "Une Chanson Triste" (Herbert Vianna), and the electronic rendition for the jongo "As Baratas" (Darcy da Serrinha). Simbora (1999) remixed songs of the previous albums in a dance-oriented record. ~ Alvaro Neder, Rovi
