Biography
Lil Berete has embraced his role of raconteur of the daily life in Regent Park, a Toronto neighbourhood often divided by gang violence and misrepresented in the media. At the top of 2018, Lil Berete returned with two companion tracks: “Southside” & “Northside” which started label conversations and eventually got him inked to a label deal with XL Recordings. With a succession of local & international singles with the new generation of U.K. sound Loski, Nafe Smallz, Headie One, and Deno, Lil Berete started to cement his status an international artist. With over 50 million streams on Spotify & Apple music alone and over 20 million views collectively on YouTube, Lil Berete has grown his audience deep beyond Regent Park. Since the departure of XL, Lil Berete release three independent songs: “Ride or Die”, “Doin’ Time”, and “Treacherous” and his first independent project Icebreaker 2 which includes "Murda" featuring Louisville artist 2KBABY, "War Ready", "No Distractions" featuring UK star Nafe Smallz, and "Big Man" featuring Detroit rapper Sada Baby. A dreamer & a poet from the streets, Lil Berete is poised to become Toronto’s next international super star. “Toronto’s most important rapper” - The FADER “trap anthems that are as catchy as they are hard” - XXL Mag
