Biography
Khrysis is a main in-house producer for underground North Carolina rap crew the Justus League alongside esteemed producer (and mentor) 9th Wonder of rap group Little Brother. Although he was constantly cast in 9th Wonder's shadow, he continued to make a name for himself, producing for artists outside of the Justus League camp, including Sean Price, Masta Ace, and Jean Grae. His tracks tend to be a combination of diverse drums and intricate melodies with a heavy usage of uncut soul samples. However, he only uses a few tools: computer software programs Fruity Loops and Cool Edit, plus a ton of vinyl. Born Christopher Shawn Tyson in New Jersey, his talent and interest in beat-making began in his early teens. Utilizing his father's massive jazz and R&B record collection, he would record an album onto tape and then use a dual cassette player to extract drums, hi hats, and whatever sounds he needed in order to make loops. As with many of the other members, his relationship with the Justus League began at North Carolina Central University in Durham, NC. In high school, he worked at the college's radio station, WNCU, and met up with League rapper Chaundon, who introduced him to 9th Wonder. Once Khrysis started attending NCCU, he crossed paths again with 9th Wonder, who then presented him to the rest of the Justus League. With fellow League member Sean Boog, he formed the Away Team duo. Their debut album, National Anthem, was released in May 2005. ~ Cyril Cordor, Rovi
