Biography

O Sister! is a swing band that recreates the golden age of vocal jazz, the popular music of the 20s and 30s in North America. This musical project was born in 2008 as a tribute to the female groups of that time, such as The Boswell Sisters, pioneers of a style (three voices in closed-harmony) whose influence would be later admitted by great artists like Ella Fitzgerald. In their beginnings with their albums 'Crazy People' (2009), 'Shout, Sister!' (2012) and 'Spooky Sessions' (2014), the Spanish sextet didn't just evoke that music style but introduced very creative arrangements, but it's been in their last phase they've begun to compose their own songs. In that sense, 'Stompin 'in joy' (2016) represented the maturity of the band, as well as the evolution of its sound towards dixieland and the original forms of jazz, which they have been integrating since their tour in New Orleans at the end of 2014, adding traditional instruments like banjo and washboard. This way of understanding jazz as danceable and carefree music, that can be already identified with O Sister!, will continue to be reflected in their fifth album, 'Nobody Cares' (2020). After more than 500 concerts in the most important events and stages related to jazz (in the United States, Sweden, Italy, Malaysia, Denmark, Greece, Romania...), the key to its success seems to lie in subtracting elitism from this genre through spontaneity and humor, thus recovering its popular nature.
