Biography
Camera Cult is an American indie/pop duo from Houston, Texas. The band was founded by Ricky J. Vasquez & David Gonzalez in late 2014. Vasquez and Gonzalez were influenced to write pop and dance music after bonding over artists like New Order, Neon Indian, Toro y Moi, and have been especially influenced by Chromeo’s “White Women” album. Their earliest efforts into song writing reflected the 80’s funk pop of Morris Day and The Time or a less talented Purple Rain era Prince. Though the public reception from the local Houston music scene has been extremely positive and enthusiastic, the duo has wanted to progress their music into contemporary pop territory. Through mid-summer 2017 into summer 2019, the trio have played countless shows in their hometown of Houston as well as the surrounding Texas region. They’ve put in the leg work opening for more nationally known artists such as, The Griswolds, DREAMERS, Rooney, HUNNY, Run River North, Young Rising Sons, Half Noise, as well as appearing at the FPSF (Free Press Summer Fest) 2017 to a widely positive reception. Camera Cult has become’s Houston’s hired guns when touring artists come to town which has only helped grow the legend of Camera Cult. Camera Cult is a band ready to bust open the door and come into their own as group. With a unique blend of indie, synth, and pop… this trio is sharper and more mature than ever.
