Biography
Americana singer-songwriter, Sawyer Fredericks, hailing from his family farm in New York State, cut his teeth at the age of 13, at farmers markets, open mics, & iconic New York venues like Caffe Lena, the Towne Crier Cafe, & The Bitter End. With deep, beyond-his-years original lyrics, melodies, & raw, soulful vocals, Sawyer seemed an unlikely match for reality tv, but quickly won over audiences with his genuine delivery & unique arrangements of classic songs, going on to win season 8 of NBC's The Voice. Fredericks since released his major label debut, A Good Storm, with Republic Records, followed by his independent 2018 Hide Your Ghost. The album, fully written & produced by Fredericks, sheds the high gloss major label treatment, staying true to Fredericks’s honest & elegantly stripped down style, a self-described “free range folk.” Considering it one of the top ten Americana Albums of 2018, Chris Griffy, writing for No Depression and AXS magazine, calls Hide Your Ghost “a bluesy folk rocker with a no-frills production that relies on Fredericks' raw voice to carry the emotional weight.” In Nov 2019, Fredericks released the title track for his upcoming album, Flowers For You. The song, harkens back to his signature blues infused roots rock, alternating heavily featured musicianship with biting self-deprecating lyrics sung with all the fierceness, rage, & frustration of a young man calling out his own shallowness & hypocrisy. The full album was released May 1, 2020.
