Biography
GARRY MAPANZURE was born on 18 June 1998 in Harare, Zimbabwe. He was raised as a pastor’s son in Masvingo, where he performed and perfected his singing and performance skills in the church choir. Garry released his first single, ‘Wapunza’, in August 2017 and it became an international hit song after the song's video was aired on Trace AFRICA. Garry released ‘Moyo Muti’ in February 2018, followed by ‘Truth Or Dare’. When Garry Mapanzure was selected as the first Zimbabwean artist for Mr Eazi's #EMPAWA100 programme he released ‘Slow’. A feature, ‘TV Room’, followed with Hillzy. This song won an AFRIMA Award in 2019 for Best Group/Duo in African R n B. In July 2019, Garry released ‘Your Man’, and this hit the #1 spot on Trace AFRICA’s Playlist Top 30. Garry was living in China before the Coronavirus pandemic and moved to the United Kingdom in February 2020 and he released his first EP, ‘Sushi Season: The First’. This is a wonderful body of work consisting of 8 deeply soulful tracks that demonstrate Garry’s unique vocal delivery and a mature approach to the track selections. Garry Mapanzure has described his genre of music as ‘Afro-Pop’, but he can seamlessly float in and out of other genres, like R n B, Soul, Afrobeats, World Music, Dancehall, Reggae and Dance/Electro Music.
