Biography
Arthur Hnatek (pronounced Na-tek), drummer/composer/electronica artist, is a Swiss (Zürich-based) contemporary musician known as one of the "most creative drummers". His life changed when discovering Aphex Twin as a teenager studying jazz drums. His solo project explores the boundaries between improvisation and functional club music with his drums and modular synths. His recent release Why So Much Hope, published by Mouthwatering Records, was celebrated as “Best Swiss Electronic Track of 2021” by SRF3 and is often featured on BBC Radio 6. He released another EP (SWIMS 2020) and a collaboration with Taut (Jojo Mayer) with whom they released "Ritual" and then Polychroma in 2021. Hnatek has also offered a clubbier side of his personality to many remixes including a recent 2022 dance floor hit for the band O'o He has also released under his allias SWIMS He is also active as a composer for his jazz projects, the “Arthur Hnatek Trio”. Their debut album STATIC was released in 2021 on London label Whirlwind Recordings. After graduating in New York, Arthur has traveled the world drumming with pianist Tigran Hamasyan or part of the Erik Truffaz Quartet. Those experiences has led him to establish his drumming and as a highly acclaimed international musician. His music has been called "essential, technical, jumpy and hypnotic running rhythm train with a British Overmono feel, a production Floating Points touch and (perhaps) tantalizing for Squarepusher fans. Inspiring !"
