Biography
Combining influences from an array of genres and his work as a touring guitarist for Grammy winning bands, New Orleans artist Eric Johanson creates blues-based alternative roots rock in his rising solo career. “The songs deal a lot with rebuilding and reorienting the mind and one’s relationship to the world,” Eric explains. “With this album I was finally able to bring my blues and rock influences to a place of more imagination and creativity, while keeping it organic and honest. It’s contemporary music naturally grown from the roots of southern blues and psychedelic inspiration.” BELOW SEA LEVEL, produced by Luther Dickinson (North Mississippi Allstars) is out now. In late March 2021, Eric dropped "Head Like A Hole," the first song from his upcoming 'Covered Tracks: Vol. 1', a collection of stripped-down acoustic cover songs to be released 4/23. The delta blues-inspired remake of the Nine Inch Nails industrial hit highlights his diverse musical background, and invites the listener to look beyond the boundaries of genre. Accompanied by a minimalist self made video, the release show’s Johanson at his most raw and unembellished - a presentation he became used to over the past year of the pandemic. Covered Tracks: Vol. 1 is slated for release April 23, 2021, and features Johanson’s take on songs by such disparate artists as Nine Inch Nails, Skip James, the Cardigans, Chicago, Allman Brothers Band, Taj Mahal, and more.
