Biography
Ellie Bleach narrates a world of peculiar characters. With a penchant for cinematic storytelling, her wry wit and esoteric lyrical style harbours a biting cynicism that examines the strange eccentricities of modern life. Raised in the seaside commuter town of Southend, Ellie was taught piano by a pet healer at an early age. Crafting an indie-meets-baroque pop sound, her theatrical narratives draw from a rotating cast of lonely, misunderstood people that exist within suburbia. Spanning light whimsy to the grandiose, she pulls from the world-building singularity of Ethel Cain mixed with the wit and showmanship of CMAT. Named a 2023 'One To Watch' by both Dork and Gigwise, she performs as a five-piece band, sharing bills with the likes of Famous, The Orielles, Kate Nash, and Black Country, New Road. Her debut EP ‘No Elegant Way to Sell Out’ was released 6th October 2022 via Sad Club Records. Ellie’s latest single ‘Pamela’ is due out on June 8th, with a headline release show at Dona (Stoke Newington, London) on June 15th. "As the new arrival in small town suburbia, an axe-wielding doomsday-prepper, Pamela embodies the ‘spiritual bimbo’ archetype – hot enough to be desired, but too strange to be accepted. This is my exploration of apocalypse anxiety without being a direct statement on climate change, it’s a snapshot of the ambient dread often felt by my generation told through an unlikely prophet”.
