Biography
Black Guayaba is a Grammy-winning Puerto Rican pop/rock/alternative band formed in the year 2000 by Gustavo González (lead vocals and rhythm guitar), Carlos Colón (keyboards), Javier Morales (guitar) and Carlos Ortíz (bass). The band released their first album [ Lo Demás Es Plástico ] in 2005 with hit singles Lejos and Despacio. The album was nominated for both Latin Grammy and Grammy in 2006. For their second album, No Hay Espacio (2007), they won the Grammy as artist and producers for "Latin Rock/Alternative Album" and that same year ASCAP awarded the band with the Vanguard Award for "shaping the future of music" making Black Guayaba the first latin artist to receive this honor. The album included the hits Ayer and Sin Tu Amor. La Conexión (2012) was the first time the band worked with composers and producers outside the band, paving the way for hits like Tú Lo Sabes Bien, Una Vida Sin Ti and Siempre (feat. Jarabedepalo). Invencible released in 2017 included hits such as Tarde o Temprano, Pronto Llegarás (co-written with Tommy Torres) and Dulce Obscenidad (co-written with Pedro Capó). In 2020 they released their single Te Quiero Tanto, a collaboration with cuban singer Diana Fuentes. During the pandemic the band recorded a single remotely from their respective homes called Un Abrazo. In 2021 they released a collection of reworked material called En Otro Viaje. Black Guayaba’s brand new single Nadie will come out Feb. 8 2023.
