Biography
Death. Sex. Doomed Romance. These three simple phrases define the sound and thematic presence of Panic Priest. The musical project of singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist Jack Armondo (formerly of “dark pop” duo My Gold Mask), Panic Priest is centered around Armondoʼs deep, crooning vocals while weaving together electronic beats, crunchy guitars and moody synths. Panic Priest creates midnight melodies that wonʼt soon leave your memory as dawn breaks. With his upcoming third full-length album PSYCHOGORIA, Armondo certainly hasn’t forsaken those themes, or the deep emotions they evoke, but he has added a sense of fun, and even a hint of camp to the proceedings. It’s a record that longs for a return to the club, to dancing and physical connection, to friends and ‘80s goth nights. After the success of 2020’s Second Seduction, Armondo could’ve played it safe and turned in a follow-up that felt like an extension of his breakout sophomore album. But PSYCHOGORIA feels different. Panic Priest’s signature sound is alive and well on this latest effort, but PSYCHOGORIA sees Panic Priest pushing himself in new directions, drawing heavily on his love of new wave and horror movies. But don’t let the cheeky horror themes fool you. Their very imagery hints at the social anxieties, obsessions, and paranoia many of us feel bubbling just under the surface.
