Biography

Founded in 1997, The Overtones is the premier co-ed a cappella group at James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Virginia. They were the first group from JMU to be featured on The Best of College A Cappella (BOCA) compilation CD in 2000, and have since been featured several times on both BOCA and Voices Only compilations. Most recently the track "Haze" from "Infrared" was featured on Voices Only 2018 and BOCA 2019. "Losing Sleep" from the same album was nominated for Best Country Song at the 2019 Contemporary A Cappella Recording Awards (CARA), garnering them their first ever CARA nomination. Their music video for "Say Love" was nominated for three A cappella Video Awards, winning runner-up for two: Best Mixed Collegiate Video and Outstanding Video Editing.
