Biography

Born in Orkney (an archipelago in the north of Scotland), Merlyn Driver was raised on a smallholding without electricity and only started attending the local school in his early teens. Having spent much of his childhood outdoors and set on pursuing a career in wildlife conservation, the challenges of adapting to normal school life distracted Merlyn from this path, and pushed him towards music. In the time since, Merlyn has gone about finding ways to combine his passions. His latest creative project is a unique album in partnership with the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds (RSPB), inspired by one of the UK's most iconic and endangered birds - the curlew.
