Chaotic, raw and honest, Kirklandd embodies the energy of punk rock and the storytelling essence of hip hop. Self-described as ‘beautiful chaos’, Kirklandd’s music is both nostalgic and cutting edge, crafted for those on a journey of self-work and discovering how they can exist as an individual in the world. His sound is hip hop at its core, though resonating through different emotional frequencies, often incorporating live instruments and subtly infectious melodies. Kirklandd grew up in Canberra, Australia, following his Grandfather’s migration from Serbia after surviving concentration camps and living through the second world war. His journey in music began at age twelve when his two older cousins introduced Kirklandd to Lupe Fiasco's “Food & Liquor”. A journey of earnest, intricate songwriting began, evolving into Kirklandd learning the cello for six years and later discovering the sounds of Bloc Party. Emanating pain and rebellion, Kirklandd’s voice echoes the uprising spirit of Rage Against The Machine against the tribulations of youth in a digital world. Raw, high energy and genre-defiant, Kirklandd’s live performance echoes the aesthetic of slowthai, having just supported WHO SHOT SCOTT, THE RIOT and Dune Rats on their tours. Kirklandd is realising the scope of his sound with his upcoming debut LP, with collaborators Taka Perry (Denzel Curry), Oktanner (Juice WRLD) & Young Monks, due for release in 2024.
