Biography

Baishui, born in a small Sichuanese city, is an award-winning composer and self-taught multi-instrumentalist and master of many traditional Chinese instruments, whose compositions and performance have ranged across his career from neo-folk and dark-ambient-influenced music to experimental and contemporary sounds—and beyond. With neo- folk project Bloody Woods, experiment-in-randomness One Day In A Quark and under his own name, Baishui has been crafting intelligent and creative music unlike anything being made in his homeland. From 2013 to 2015, Baishui composed film score for the Chinese famous director Cao Baoping's two movies Einstein and Einstein and The Dead End, and The Dead End Soundtrack Collection won the Best Film Music Album of 16th Chinese Music Media Awards. Baishui became the first mainland Chinese composer to win this award. His tenth album Dairy of Broken Sounds goes with a lighter sound; full of electronics it still feels distinctly unplugged, in stark contrast to recent improvisation and experimental forrays. Diary, in short, takes a minimalist approach to the artist’s very maximalist goal: the pursuit of a new music—“Baishui Music”—with an Oriental core. In recent years, Baishui has always been working on his brand new project Sound in Motion, it's a interesting and open art project in which many artists in various of the field were invited to work with Baishui.
