Biography
Born in the DMV (DC, Maryland, and Virginia), Rebel Rae represents a culturally diverse backdrop which sets the tone for her music, not only as an artist, but also as a songwriter. Influenced by notable artists such as Tracy Chapman, Bob Marley and Bob Dylan, Rae strives to create songs that serve her generation — especially those who feel unseen and unheard in today’s society. She aims to make music that reflects the times and ultimately, the songs that she, herself, wants to hear. Rae’s music is an extension of her journey through her voice, and that sound has resonated with audiences all over the world. At the DC Youth Climate Strike with Rep. Ilhan Omar, Rebel Rae performed “We The People” live on Capitol Hill. As one of the largest environmental protests in history, tens of thousands of students joined together, globally, in solidarity to make their voices heard. With fellow D.C. artist, Ari Lennox, Rebel Rae joined the European leg of Lennox’s “Shea Butter Baby” tour, returning to London, where Rae performed to sold-out crowds in the U.K., France, Germany, Netherlands, Norway, Belgium, Denmark and Sweden. Coming off the success of the tour, this year, Rae enamored stay-at-home audiences with a live performance in collaboration with Coke Studios and #BeApp. Among the performers were Katy Perry, Anitta, DJ Khaled, Bebe Rexha, Miguel, Cast of Hamilton and Steve Aoki.
