Biography
Total Death emerged among the cold mountains of Quito, Ecuador in 1991. Since its first EP, the 7” gem ‘Silencio de Soledad’, the band’s main goal was to take their doom death roots into vanguard’s territories. Five critically acclaimed records, international tours and a diehard fan base in South America are proof that after 25 years the same mindset is stronger than ever. Their latest effort, a 20 minute doom death extravaganza called ‘La Noche Oscura del Alma, is finally letting the Ecuadorian legend be renowned worldwide. This was the result of an innovative creative process, beautifully crafted songwriting and a high end recording, mixing and mastering process by the renowned Swedish producer Jens Bogren at Fascination Street Studios. Total Death has set the standard on how barriers can be expanded in the South American doom metal scene. This confidence has let them play effortlessly alongside their legendary peers such as Opeth, Dismember, Dark Tranquility, Possessed, Therion, Anathema or Arch Enemy. Their special performance onboard the luxurious festival 70000 Tons of Metal in 2017 has gained them a worldwide fan base, receiving compliments from such bands as Orphaned Land, Draconian and even Anthrax themselves, who were all fellow cruisers. Also, they have always paid tribute to their own sound identity as South Americans: immense percussions and melodies from the Andes.
