Biography
I'm Eleri Ward, here to serve you indie-folk Sondheim covers from the heart as well as my original pop music that’s rooted in storytelling. Originally from Chicago, I've been making music my whole life; annoying my sister as I constantly hummed in my carseat and arguing with my piano teacher as I rewrote Chopin tunes to my own liking. My Sondheim covers, are a whirling combination of two deep loves: the expansive, one of a kind canon of Stephen Sondheim and the sweet, melancholic sounds of Sufjan Stevens straight from the scenery of Carrie & Lowell, interpreted through my original point of view. Starting from a spontaneous Instagram post in 2019, covering "Every Day A Little Death", I have now crafted my own niche at the crossroads of musical theatre and indie-folk music embodied by acoustic simplicity and swirling harmonies flowing through my TWO full length albums, A Perfect Little Death and Keep a Tender Distance. Most inspired by Caroline Polachek, Sufjan Stevens, Lianne La Havas, and Andrew Bird, my original music doesn't sound like any one of those things, but rather a conglomeration of genres, styles, and sounds that evoke feeling, and blending them together over my pop home base. I'd say if Caroline Polachek, Maggie Rogers, Dua Lipa, and Sara Bareilles had a baby, it'd be me and my pop bops.
