Biography

zalagasper (Zala Kralj and Gašper Šantl) are a Slovenian electronic music duo from Maribor, which jointly write, produce and perform since 2017. Their first single ‘Valovi’ immediately made waves in the Slovenian scene and received the Slovenian annual music award Zlata piščal for the best song of 2017. Before becoming a duo, they both made their way in Slovenia’s music scene individually. Zala started out by playing covers and soon began writing her own songs that distinguish themselves with their sensitive story-telling and her smooth, melodic vocals. Gašper originally played guitar, but in his teens his musical interests led him to Prague. This is where he studied to become a producer and composer under the big wing of Faust Records studio. Two years later, he was ready for new stories and inspirations and he decided to take an extensive cycling trip that would take him all around Europe. Fired up by the impressions and experiences from his trip, he finished his songs as soon as he returned to Prague. However, he still had not yet found the right vocalist for his songs. This is when social media came to the rescue. Gašper met Zala on Instagram, where Zala’s videos gave him a first taste of what they could achieve together, after a common friend introduced the two musicians. The most important bond in their project is their joint passion to tell stories with their songs as well as to write and interpret each other’s music.
