Biography

In 2002 at the urging of then EMI President, Deane Cameron, singer-songwriters Damhnait Doyle, Kim Stockwood, and Tara MacLean came together to form “Shaye”. They went on to release two records, win numerous awards, and receive crazy amounts of airplay. While the band broke up in 2017, the friendship that drew them together to form Shaye has not waned. They have experienced many of life’s ups and downs together. The tragic death of Tara’s sister, Shaye, the birth of their children, marriages, divorces, and everything in-between. “We wanted to record a song to mark the 20th anniversary of the band. We spent weeks listening to dozens of amazing Canadian songs. Finding consensus is never easy with a band but one day while we were on zoom, reviewing our shortlist yet again, Damhnait looked out her window and saw Charlotte Cornfield walking down the street. As it has so many times before with Shaye, the universe sealed the deal. We wanted to record a song we wish we’d written and “Silver Civic” is just that. It was even more wonderful that we could help showcase the work of a talented young Canadian writer.” Cornfield’s song speaks of the heartbreak of seeing the person you love everywhere and in everything. Produced by Danny Michel, the song features the musicianship of Rob Carli (horns), Mark Mariash (timpani) and, of course, Danny himself (drums, bass, guitars, keys).
