Biography
Metal Mother is the pseudonym of LA-based performance artist, vocalist, pianist, and composer, Tara Timberman. At the intersection of art pop, doom folk, and experimental electronic, Metal Mother weaves synth-heavy tapestries, melancholic melodies, intricate polyrhythms, and etheric vocals into cathartic arrangements of songs. Originally from a small town in coastal Northern California, Metal Mother works with themes of deep ecology, mythical archetypes, folklore, and the dissolution of binaries. Metal Mother seeks to animate unseen phenomena through poetry and performance. Releases include the debut album ‘Bonfire Diaries’ ( 2011), the sophomore album ‘Ionika’ (2013), and most recently the EP ‘Pagan Jazz’ (2018). Garnering praise from MTV Iggy, USA Today, Vogue, BUST, VICE, and others, Metal Mother has been able to perform nearly 100 shows throughout the US and Mexico and create several music videos to accompany her songs. In 2014, she was featured on the Glitch Mob’s song ‘Becoming Harmonious.’ Metal Mother is also known for being a supporter of climate justice and for her contributions to the Oakland music collective, Post Primal. In 2021 she wrote the original score for the short film, ‘Watermelon,’ directed by Josefine Petersen. She is currently completing her third full-length album.
