Biography
Sanne Salomonsen is a Danish pop singer with a deep catalog of solo and group output that spans decades. Her solo career originally took flight in the mid-'80s, though she continued to experience success in subsequent decades with a mix of Danish- and English-language material. Born on December 30, 1955, she made her recording debut in 1973 with the self-titled album Sanne Salomonsen. Not much came of the album, a Danish-language effort, and a few years passed before Salomonsen returned as a member of the group Flair. The group released a couple English-language albums on which she was featured, including Flair (1976) and Stop, Look & Listen (1977). She was also a member of the Anne Linnet Band and appears on a couple Danish-language full-length efforts of theirs: Anne Linnet Band (1981) and Cha Cha Cha (1982). In the meantime, she was most successful in the Danish pop group Sneakers, appearing on four albums of theirs: Sneakers (1980), Sui-Sui (1981), Rou'let (1982), and Katbeat (1984). As a solo artist, she had released a second album, the English-language effort Precious Moments (1977), amid her various group activities. Nonetheless, her solo career didn't take flight until the mid-'80s, starting with the Danish-language album Sanne Salomonsen (1985). The follow-up effort, Ingen Engel (1987), was released in English (titled No Angel) in addition to its Danish version. Subsequent albums were mostly in English, though some, like Sanne (1989), were in Danish while others, like Unplugged (1994), were a mix of English and Danish. Among her latter-day output, Salomonsen had a banner year in 2005, releasing the chart-topping album The Album and an accompanying DVD, The Show, which was also popular. She also topped the charts in 2009 with the album Unico, which includes the number two smash hit single "Taxa." ~ Jason Birchmeier
