Biography
the sound of self-esteem! "Most bands play their first shows in basements. Mostly, this is out of necessity – it’s hard to get your name on a marquee without buzz or cash, so people settle for basements. With american poetry club, it never seemed like settling. More of a community project than a band, apc rose out of the primordial soup of the St. Louis DIY scene in 2017, a revolving cast of local musicians and students who built their name locally on live shows: a mass of adoring friends participating in a kinetic music experience. Half of the time, the mic is in the hands of the crowd, as the room comes together to belt out 'we are a brilliant sunbeam!' american poetry club is the self-described 'sound of self-esteem' – the art they produce is dedicated to the concept of being your true self, without the souring anxiety of shame or embarrassment. It’s so overwhelmingly genuine and earnest that you can’t help but smile. Clocking in at 14 minutes, their newest EP doesn’t waste a second in delivering the band’s signature distillation of melancholy infused with radiant optimism. It isn’t groundbreaking, but the consistency of their message is more potent than ever. american poetry club is an exercise in community, and community never dies so long as apc has anything to do with it." - Ethan, a friend NYC jordan.weinstock@hotmail.com they / them
