Biography
In the late summer of 2014, Alex Mason wrote the first song to be included on Boy From School’s first full length album, White Hot Light, while he was combating insomnia strolling through his neighborhood in the middle of the night. Since that night, the band underwent multiple lineup, sound, and perspective changes until reaching the indie rock/pop/electronic fusion that it is today, balancing shiny synth sounds and gritty guitar solos with dance-worthy bass riffs, and drawing on influences of the 70s and 80s rock and pop they grew listening to with their parents. Boy From School as it stands before you today is a power trio consisting of lead vocalist and guitarist Alex Mason, lead vocalist, synthesizerist, and flautist Erin Dickson, and bassist and recording engineer Beniah Dickson. Mostly self produced, White Hot Light is the result of months and months of songwriting, countless demos, and way too much coffee. While the album maintains the fun summertime vibes present in their EP Northern Cities Shift, it delves deeper lyrically, covering topics such as self-doubt, learning to let go, how to love, and finding a balance between dreams and reality in a world saturated with social media. The result is an eclectic yet curated collection of songs that make you want to dance in the car and maybe even sing along.
