Biography

Woes is a 5-piece indie rock band based in Singapore. Weaving twinkly guitar lines over groovy bass riffs and soaring vocals, the band presents intimate vignettes of nostalgic memories, adolescent love, and self-doubt through their music. The band’s juxtaposition of uplifting refrains and melancholic lyrics tell stories that are earnest, rousing, and uncertain – much like the feeling of growing up. What initially started out as a solo project by Russell Seow (bass), Woes has evolved into a fully fledged band with the addition of Raizel Gonzales (vocals), Alex Calaunan (guitars), Aloysius Au (guitars) and Khoo Shen-En (drums). Woes channels each of their members’ technical virtuosity through the lens of math and emo – resulting in a unique concoction of intricate songwriting, tight performances, and cathartic melodicism. This distinctive sound, alongside the band’s exhilarating live shows, have made them a highly-sought staple in Singapore’s indie rock scene. Following their well-received debut “Zoodreams”, Woes dropped their sophomore EP, “Wake Up Pls”, last year to critical acclaim. The band is currently working on their debut full length album.
