Biography

Since 1998 Ana Cihuacoatl began her learning with the native traditions (mazateca, huichol, mexica-nahuatl, Lakota), this included traditional medicine ceremonies, ethnic singing, Mexican cosmogony and Aztec dance. For over a decade she was singer of the “Sundance”, the “Moondance” and different ceremonies in Mexico. Through the oral tradition teachings, she has received from the native elder people some labours; one of them is to take the medicine songs, with all respect, to people who needs them. Since 2003 she founded Anawak– Traditional Mexican Music Ensemble, with whom she has been performing all around Mexico, United States of America and couple places in Spain and France, also recording 3 albums and one single. As a hobby Ana Cihuacoatl also has performed rock music and other genres.
