Biography
Hierophants are an Australian quartet who play jittery, nervous post-punk/new wave-inspired indie rock. Their simple, catchy songs feature buzzing organ and a thin layer of echo, along with lyrics expressing stress and frustration. Consisting of drummer Jake Robertson (also of Ausmuteants), guitarist Zak Olsen, keyboard player Paris Richens, and bassist Daff Gravolin, the group formed in 2010 after Olsen moved to the Southern Australian city of Geelong. In 2012, Hierophants released a 7" EP as well as a couple of split cassettes on the Anti Fade Records label. The group's release schedule took a bit of a breather while Ausmuteants released several well-received albums and singles, but Hierophants returned in 2014 with two 7" singles: "Nothing Neu!" on Goodbye Boozy Records and "Pneumatic Drill" on Moontown Records. Goner Records (Ausmuteants' American home) signed Hierophants and released a 7" called "I Don't Mind" in early 2015. The group's debut full-length, Parallax Error, was released in October by Goner Records and Melbourne-based Aarght! Records. ~ Paul Simpson, Rovi
