Biography

Jesus Ojeda y Sus Parientes are a regional Mexican music group from Sinaloa, Mexico. Their sound is based in norteño, banda, and corrido -- particularly narcocorridos. Jesus Ojeda Sauceda was born in 1984 and began making music at a young age; he played in many non-recording regional and local groups until 2008, when he began working in earnest as a songwriter and experienced success. Some of the artists who have recorded his songs include Saúl el Jaguar, Conjunto Diamante Norteño, Banda Pequeños Musical, Fidel Rueda, El Bebeto, Apostadores, Jorge Santacruz, and Calibre 50. In 2010, he formed a band originally called Los Parientes, an all-guitar-and-vocal group with Thomas and German Hernandez. They split, and Ojeda recruited guitarist and backing vocalist Joel Bojorquez and tuba player Luis Cardenas and changed the name. Their debut album, Estilo Italiano, was issued in 2012 to critical and commercial acclaim, garnering the band an instant fan base. His corridos, he claimed, were "in Italian style" because, as he explained in an interview, they are like the old Sicilian mafiosi songs and never celebrate drug lords and/or the violence of the narco cartels. Critics weren't so sure, but audiences didn't care. The album placed in the Top Five on both the Hot Latin Albums and Mexican Regional charts. Their follow-up, El Micho, was issued in 2012 and charted in the Top Ten of the Regional Mexican charts, while their self-titled third album landed in the Top Five. Ojeda and his band became a sell-out attraction on both sides of the U.S./Mexico border. Their touring took them into 2016 when they re-entered the studio. In February 2017, they issued a video for "El Amigo de Todos," and followed that with three more pre-release singles -- "No Es un Juego" in March, and "Tengo Amistades" and "Mi Todo (Por Fijarme en Tu Belleza)" in April. All placed well on streaming charts. The full-length, also titled El Amigo de Todos, was released in mid-May. ~ Thom Jurek
