Nancy Kerr - Tiburon lyrics

Artist: Nancy Kerr

album: Between the Light and Dark

She liked to swim between the dark and light;
Beneath the windless greyish waves of dawn or twilight;
And everybody warned:
'Hold onto life, Tiburon's abroad.'
She liked to dive where no one chose to go;
She closed her eyes and slowly glided till blue-black collided;
And everybody cried:
'Oh don't you know? Tiburon's below.'
And he's waiting for a fool to take him on;
Tiburon feeds at night and fights at dawn;
Hold on to life: Tiburon's abroad.
She liked to bathe when blue skies turn to grey,
And when angry tides would blind the deeps with sandy rainbows.
Hear her mother weep:
'Why can't you go when Tiburon's asleep?'
For he's praying for a fool to go too far,
And that's just the fool you are;
Tiburon braves the chill and shuns the light;
Sing requiem when Tiburon's in sight.
He feels a stir split and spark the water;
Beautiful in his coat of pewter,
Plots a course to court her;
And he begins to smile:
Look out below, Tiburon begiles.
He turns his eye, black and sly upon her;
Thinks her shy and delights to awe her like the ones before her:
Do you know the laws you flout:
'How dare you dive when Tiburon's about?'
She says you shine like a shard of silver;
See how the sky approves your beauty like a silken mirror;
Go on and feast your eyes;
'She cries you're fine, Tiburon's divine.'
So he's preening with his belly to the moon
And he's drowning in the blue;
And he's flailing in a foam of salt and spray;
Tiburon flicks his tail and dives alone;
She makes for shore and all the seabirds bray:
'Poor Tiburon lost his poise and lost his prey;
Hold on to life, Tiburon's away.
