    Born Wayne Damion-Nesta Buchanan on February 19, 1982 to mother Allorie Heath, the reggae gospel singing sensation started singing at the tender age of eight, and was already doing dub-plates on a number of sound systems in and around his community. 
 Though a seed had been planted in music, it was growing in a direction that God did not intend, so He stepped in and performed a 'heart transplant'. By age 12, Wayne began singing a different tune, ditching the August Town’s sound systems for a higher calling: he was now singing in the church for Jesus, accepting Christ as his Lord and Saviour. 
 Wayne defied all odds and rose to the challenge to prove that with God, all things are possible, and this gave birth to his stage name Jai (Jesus and I) Kingston.
