Biography

California native Mary Ives is an independent artist with soulful vocals, thought-provoking lyrics, and a bohemian production style. Raised on a steady diet of Jackson Browne, Joni Mitchell, and James Taylor, Ives’ voice developed into a reflection of her earliest influences: Laurel Canyon folk-rock, contemporary gospel, and 60’s pop.  As a young teen, Ives began writing songs at the family piano. Now in her mid-twenties, Ives has collaborated on numerous projects with artists such as Monako Davis, The TVC, and GAL. In 2018, Ives began working extensively with Monako Davis and Spencer Riley Alfonso, together creating the pseudonym Saint Evaleen that features Ives as the vocalist and co-writer. Since then, Ives, Davis, and Alfonso have authored songs such as “Fever” by Monako Davis, which was highlighted as a top track of 2019 on Musicbed; as well as “Chic” and “Walk that Walk” from The TVC’s 2020 EP “Flex”, which was described by Nic Carfa (co-founder of Musicbed) as having “top-notch vocals. And the vibes are sunny as hell.” In 2020, Ives channeled her feelings of isolation during quarantine into a series of self-produced singles - Quarantine and Happiness, Peace and Quiet, Cielo Azul, Is There Anybody Out There, and Blue Hydrangeas - each highlighting her genre-bending blend of lo-fi, soulful pop. Ives released her debut album entitled “I’m Sorry” on September 9th, 2022, themed after the dilemma of being an organic human in a digital world. (Photos by Mariah Russek)
