Biography

Makeout Reef is an Orange County, CA based rock n’ roll band that consists of elements such as indie, garage rock, alternative, and punk-like energy; all mixed into the "California Sound.” Makeout Reef was founded in 2014 by Josh Castillo as a prototype solo project, but later shaping into a full band in 2016 with Liam Reece. January 31, 2018, Makeout Reef self-released their debut album “Existential,” with the help of Artist/Producer St. Panther. Then would follow up with two singles “Montezuma's Revenge/Youth” two months later. For a couple years after that the band would gig consistently through Southern California, ranging from backyard sets to sold out shows at the Observatory in Santa Ana. In 2020, With the release of “Get Here / I Don't Wanna Know”, Makeout Reef presented a new age of their musical ambition. Produced by Astro Lizard Records. During the Pandemic, the band went on a healthy break pursuing different musical outlets with Liam filling in drums for San Luis Obispo based rock group KROOKS and Josh’s new solo project SORA. As of 2023, Makeout Reef is currently the songwriting duo of Josh Castillo (Guitar, Vocals) and Liam Reece (Drums, Vocals), with Kyle Hauk on Bass Guitar and Moses Navarro on Lead Guitar.
