Biography
DIY songwriter, background actor, podcast scores, hearing aid practitioner; Doug Hoyer has a lot of varied interests but always comes around to crafting songs. When a friend asked Doug Hoyer what his 6th album 'Getting Older' sounded like, he enthusiastically replied: “You know my other 5 albums? It's a lot like those!” While the restless Canadian indie-folkpop songwriter has varied his sonic palette over the past decade, here he is consistently rooted in his wry, playfully reflective songwriting. 'Getting Older' showcases a focus on lyrical precision, needling the thread on topics such as aging, perspective, the Jan 6th capital riots, family, resource extraction in Alberta, and the perennial theme of change. Musically, Hoyer balances his interest in lo fi synths & gentle drum machines with slick power pop jangle guitars, with a dash of ukulele to assemble a collection where the song holds center. After giving this album a listen, you may find that you too are ‘getting older’ by half an hour or so.
