Sam Jones and Joe Dworniak are two of the original band members from 80's British Funk/Dance band iLEVEL, known for their underground UK club hits 'Give Me' , ‘Minefield’, dub remix 'In The River' and acclaimed rare groove classic ‘In the Sand’. They signed to Richard Branson’s Virgin Records in 1982, released 2 albums & 7 singles and were awarded ‘most promising newcomers’ by the readers of then influential music magazine ‘Blues & Soul’ in 1982. 'Give Me' and ‘Minefield’ charted in the US Billboard dance and R&B charts, (reaching no. 11 and no.5 respectively) under license to US label Epic. Numerous samples of ‘Give Me’ have been released by influential US hip-hop artists; A TRIBE CALLED QUEST featuring Noreaga ‘Give Me’ in 1998, AZ ft. NAZ ‘Gimme Yours’ 1995, SANDY KERR ‘Thug Rock’ 1982, LOST BOYZ ‘So Love’ 1997 plus various others. Joe first met Sam at Music Works Studio in Holloway Road, where he worked as an Engineer. At the time Sam was a member of Reggae band ‘BRIMSTONE’ and later they went on to form iLEVEL with Duncan Bridgeman. After a long hiatus, interspersed with writing sessions Joe and Sam got together to focus on the new iLEVEL project, recording out of Joe’s studio in Cornwall. Sam lives between London and Sierra Leone, where he was born. He grew up in Scotland and moved to London as a teenager. Joe lives in Cornwall, is of Irish & Polish descent and was born in Leyton, East London where he grew up.
