Biography

The American alternative pop artist that many have come to know as Annie Goodchild, is now called ‘I Used to Be Sam.’ Her remarkable career has touched various corners of the earth, from the U.S. as a world-touring vocalist to Scott Bradlee's Postmodern Jukebox, to performing in and out of Europe’s largest cities as the illustrious voice behind Melou, to finally opening for Alicia Keys in the city she now calls home - Basel, Switzerland. In the years following her latest single-release in 2018, the vocalist whose soulful voice has often been compared to the stylings of Amy Winehouse, Norah Jones, and Sarah Vaughan, has been on a two-year journey of self reflection and self-love while unraveling the details of her ambiguous past. After taking an Ancestry DNA test, Annie learned that before being adopted, she used to be named Samantha. After attempts to reconnect with her birth mother were met by re-rejection, Annie recounted this experience to a producer on a songwriting trip in Berlin. And from that moment, I Used To Be Sam was born. Follow Annie's journey of self-discovery and exploration of transracial adoption by visiting their new artist page: I Used to Be Sam
