Biography
In 2020, in the middle of a pandemic, Jody Glenham released Mood Rock, her first full-length in 10+ years. The album is co-produced by two-time Polaris nominee, Louise Burns, and Raymond Richards (Local Natives, LCD Soundsystem). The eight track opus builds around themes of mental health (Talking Out Loud, Fuckers), the current state of the world (War On This World, Dawn) and the space women allow for themselves in their relationships, art practices, and careers (The Sound, Barely Alive, Friday Night Lights). Jody has persisted to find her footing in Canada's national soundscape. The Vancouver based alt-rock survivor created Mood Rock after navigating twenty years of industry sexism and the limited inclusivity present in rock music. As with previous albums, Brave New World (2006) and Focus Pull (2009), she recorded and released Mood Rock herself, this time inviting other women into roles of producer, engineer and session player. Even the album's name, Mood Rock, exists to clearly communicate with the listener Jody's place within the genre. Jody Glenham has a distinct voice as stirring songwriter and has made a name for herself as a player-for-hire, having toured the world in Louise Burns' live band. She is a frequent contributor to west coast Girls Rock Camp's in Seattle and Vancouver and hosts a radio show for Brooklyn based station, KPISS.FM.
