Biography

Tunis resident Souhayl Guesmi, also known by his stage name Ratchopper, is an accomplished pianist, composer, record producer, DJ, sound engineer and artist from Jendouba, Tunisia. Having always been curious how his favorite tracks were made, he began experimenting with music programming at the age of 14 by remaking the records that most touched him as a kid. It wasn't long before he started posting his works on Soundclick, attracting international attention. As a pianist, Ratchopper has performed at numerous art festivals and his classical compositions have been performed by renowned musicians in various venues around the world, notably by concert pianist Kimball Gallagher. Ratchopper has found international success both as a solo artist and a producer, working and producing hits with some of Tunisia's best-known Rap and Pop artists, and establishing new sounds with artists such as 4LFA, JenJoon and Ghali In 2018, he launched his own record label under the name BLOC C Records as an independent platform for artists with aligning visions, under which he released his critically acclaimed works that are experimental and genre-bending, merging local, traditional monophonic sounds and textural elements of Arabic music, with the polyphony of modern jazz and contemporary classical composition, all heavily influenced by hip hop and electronic music. Ratchopper continuously explores the limitless possibilities of today’s technology to reinvent traditional sonorities.
