Biography
Pi Ja Ma aka Pauline de Tarragon re-issues her second album Seule sous ma frange (Alone under my fringe) with 4 bonus tracks. Teaming up once again with Axel Concato (My Bee’s Garden, The Narcoleptic Dancers), faithful producer and co-composer since her Radio Girl EP (2016), Pi Ja Ma’s two favourite past times still figure: drawing and music, which she juggles between as an illustrator. Playing with genres and eras, she now writes and composes, creating personal songs with real depth. Changed by life’s twists and turns Pauline seems to have grown up with women’s freedom now a preoccupation. Though not directly political her songs still evoke how it really is for women. They invite you to dance laugh and sing (side A) as much as reminding you of how important it is to own your melancholy (side B). They talk about boredom without ever indulging it. They evoke the uncertain feelings and questions that arise from 20 years of imaginary meetings and fantastic idyllic journeys. This new album offers a rich sound palette of both belted out and softly whispered songs influenced by 50s pop ethereal folk smooth electro and dishevelled disco. Both the product of a generation and its antidote there’s no doubt the album will put Pi Ja Ma and her sweet exuberance firmly on the musical map.
