Biography
CNN International describes the music of the Mendes Brothers as “slow, soothing, pulsating, and powerful.” Ramiro Mendes and João Mendes (Mendes Brothers) are legendary award-winning musicians, authors, composers, music producers, and humanitarians from Cape Verde Islands whose iconic sound dominate the wave of Portuguese-speaking world (PALOP). A graduate of Berklee College of Music, Boston, USA, Ramiro Mendes is largely responsible for the signature compositions, productions, and arrangements of all the major PALOP artists, including Cesária Évora, Bana, Tito Paris, Waldemar Bastos, to name only a few. As humanitarians, the Mendes Brothers have dedicated almost their entire adult lives to the promotion of peace and unity in Africa through music. They are well known for their peace-intervention work in Angola, Mozambique, Cape Verde, Guinea Bissau, and São Tomé and Príncipe. The Mendes Brothers are pioneers of several contemporary musical genres, including bandera, talaia baxu, kodra, and tchoru, and comic soul music. João and Ramiro Mendes have appeared on many national and international television networks and programs, including CNN International, RPT, CBS Virginia, and The Climate Reality Project (with U.S. Vice President, Al Gore). In 2017, the Mendes Brothers launched their debut book, SOUND—The Fabric of Soul, Consciousness, Reality, and the Cosmos, signaling a new direction in sound metaphysics.
