Biography
Over the years, the Sydney and London-based trio PVT's music has ranged from experimental post-rock to dark electro-pop. Brothers Laurence Pike (drums, percussion) and Richard Pike (guitar, production) formed the group in 1999, with other members coming and going until laptop musician Dave Miller joined in 2005. Initially known as Pivot, the Pikes spent several years crafting the group's debut album, as well as collaborating with acts such as Triosk, Prefuse 73, Savath & Savalas and Roam the Hello Clouds, which also featured Miller. Make Me Love You was released in 2005 and earned an Australian Album of the Year nomination at that year's J Awards. For their second album, O Soundtrack My Heart, Miller and the Pikes worked with Tortoise's John McEntire at his Soma Electronic Music Studios in Chicago; Warp released the album, as well as the EP In the Blood, in 2008. After an American group also named Pivot filed a legal claim, the band changed its name to PVT in 2010, and that year's Church with No Magic was their first album under their new moniker. Two years later, the band toured Australia with Gotye and signed to Felte, who released Homosapien -- PVT's most pop-oriented album to date -- in 2013. On 2017's New Spirit, the trio explored political and cultural intolerance in Australia. ~ Heather Phares, Rovi
