Kór Langholtskirkju was founded in 1953, most of that time under the direction of Jón Stefánsson. Regularly it presents new Icelandic composition along with having composers write new work. The choir has toured numerously e.g. in the northern countries, in Middle and South Europe, in Israel where it performed Messiah by Händel, to Canada, America and England where it, among other music, it performed Mass in B minor by Bach in Barbican music hall with the English Chamber Orchestra. The choir has performed all the monumental pieces by Bach along with other major work such as Petite Messe solenelle by Rossini, Ein Deutsches Requiem by Brahms, Messiah by Händel, Messe solenelle by Beethoven, The Creation and masses by Haydn, Requiem and masses by Mozart, Messa di Gloria by Puccini, Les noches by Stravinski and Guðbrandsmessu composed by Hildigunnur Rúnarsdóttir for the choir to mark its 50th anniversary. The choir has released some work such as the albums Land míns föður, An Anthology of Icelandic Choir Music, Johannes passion by Bach, Barn er oss fætt and Ísland er lýðveldi. Magnús Ragnarsson has been the choirs conductor since 2017.
