Biography
Ben Aqua's unique brand of genre-bending hyperpop electronic music productions and DJ sets gained notoriety in the early 2010s with their viral Nicki Minaj, Beyoncé, and Ciara bootleg club edits. In 2011, Ben produced a series of warehouse parties in Austin and created the experimental club music label #FEELINGS, which helped launch the careers of Björk collaborators Rabit and Lotic. From 2011-2014, Ben released several singles and remixes for STRFKR, YACHT, and Balmorhea, plus a production for Gorillaz collaborator Zebra Katz's "Red River." In 2014, Ben released their debut full-length album, 'Virtual Anticipation'. Later that year, Ben produced a Resident Advisor podcast featuring like-minded artists SOPHIE and A. G. Cook from PC Music. The mix's unusually bright, hyperpop aesthetic quickly garnered much controversy within the club music scene, and it was named FACT Magazine's Mix of the Week. Ben spent the next few years producing remixes for Anamanaguchi, Hatsune Miku, and TT The Artist, as well as the collaborative single "ANARCHY" with Ary Waarnar from Anamamaguchi. In 2018, Ben's song "Reset Yourself" was featured in Apple’s “Shot on iPhone” ad campaign and their Fischerspooner remix was released on Ultra Music. Ben's music has also been featured by Skrillex's Nest HQ, Mad Decent, Interview Magazine, The Creators Project, VICE, Dummy Mag, FADER, and BUTT.
