Biography
Sister Deborah is an AfroPop celebrity known mostly for her international hit “Uncle Obama” which was viewed by millions and got her interviewed on CNN primetime aptly right before Obama debated his opponent for his second term in 2012. She releases a single with a video every few months always creating media buzz because of funny and/or controversial topics such as “Ghana Jollof”, which got featured on the BBC, the Guardian UK, The Fader and NPR. Her song “Pure Water” embraces the LGBTQ+ community in the music video and “Kakalika Love'' went viral with the longest lasting social media challenge from Ghana in 2018. She has collaborated with pop stars like Y'Akoto, Angel Maxine, EFYA, Medikal, & FOKN Bois. Sister Deborah's social media presence is undeniable and steadily growing with 3 million Instagram, 1 million Twitter and 786,000 Facebook followers. This is mainly attributed to her bubbly personality, originality, creativity and fashion sense. She has worked as an influencer with a number of corporate brands such as Vodafone, Malta Guinness, & Samsung, Kit Kat, Femfresh, Closeup, Printex, Vida e Caffe, Google, Nescafe, Martell, Tonaton ‘Campaign on Autism Awareness’, and Fanyogo Ghana as the first woman artist to be brand ambassador. Also an environmental guardian, Sister Deborah aka Sister Derby aka The African Mermaid advocates for a world free of plastic pollution and inspires her Dolphins (fans) to recycle and keep their surroundings clean.
