Biography
Frogpond prepares to release its first album in over 20 years, with a refreshed lineup. Clocking in at a succinct 30 minutes, ‘TimeThief’ brims with momentous pop anthems, striking dynamics and riff-heavy stomps that draw on the band’s visceral grunge and power-pop aesthetics. Driven by singer/guitarist and founder Heidi Phillips’ rapturous vocals — simultaneously meditative and eruptive — the music remains true to the original Frogpond sound that made them fan favorites of the late ‘90s alternative rock scene. Unvarnished but deliberate, with the added benefit of time and perspective. Rewriting a story that seemingly ended long ago (including a meteoric rise, two major label albums and tours with world-famous acts like Everclear, Goo Goo Dolls and Toadies), Phillips and long-time bassist, Justine Volpe, assert that reforming the band is more than just a reunion; it’s a reclamation of Frogpond’s identity, where the music can finally speak for itself. The addition of seasoned musicians Kristin Conkright on rhythm guitar and Michelle Bacon on drums restores the band to an all-female lineup, evoking its original spirit of vitality and camaraderie. With this configuration and an endlessly playable record, ‘TimeThief’ marks much more than a reunion, but a bold, lived-in proclamation of self-expression and independence. ‘TimeThief’ will be released on digital platforms and limited-edition vinyl via Black Site Records in Nov. 2021.
